So I had some really really really lofty goals this weekend. I was going to make tags to go with each of the 9 (that's NINE) recipe and measuring card templates I have posted recently. ummm.... yeah right. I am on the verge of throwing myself on the floor to begin a jolly round of hysterical laughter combined with hair ripping and crying - but I am too worn out from making these silly TAGS!!! ARGHHHH TAGS!!! heh. ok. See. I feel much much better. RonChops - hang up the phone. No need to call the guys with the padded truck. Now back to our regularly scheduled LollyChops post.
Sew.. GIANT bushel of apples sized thanks to Jessica from TurkeyCookies for posting her fantastic applesauce recipe yesterday!
If you are interested in hosting a recipe - let me know (lollychops [at] gmail [dot] com).
Listed below (way below actually) is the SINGLE set of tags (in 2 fabulous versions) that I was able to get done. Once you see them - I think you'll get why there was no way I was going to make matching tags for each design in a single day (I only have 459 more versions to go - and no - I am not kidding around). Don't get me wrong... I am actually looking forward to making them. The more I do in Illustrator - the better I get at it. So it's good for me. I swear!
I have lots to share about them (what they are, how you can use them, what you might want to get to help make them really cool, etc...) so get ready.
I make cards so I have recently purchased some really uber cool punches made by a company called Marvy (you can see the circle punch sitting in the background of this picture). Eventually I will have tags for both sizes I own (blue and pink). Right now I just started with the pink ones.. the pink punches can be seen HERE. The deal with these punches is that the sizes correspond to the colors (so if you go to your local craft store and see a pink circle or pink scallop punch by marvy - it will be the ones I am talking about in this post). On the PaperTrey Ink site it's called the Mega - 2.5 inches in diameter punch. Soooo.. do you need to get these punches to make my tags? NO. Heck no (I would not do that to you). Do they help a little? Yes. I specifically made both of these tags to match with those exact punches. They will line up perfectly with the punches and as you can see from the next pic - they even have a neat little viewing window so you can watch as you line them up. It's cool stuff folks! Oh yeah.. I even made an extra wide border on the outside so you have a little leeway and do not have to worry about being perfect - it leaves a cool skinny green border on the tags too.
With that said, you can of course cut them out by hand - that's one of the reasons I made a plain circle version. I did one go round of cutting the scallop version by hand so I could see what it would be like if you did not have the punch and YUCK.. it's possible but you see - I failed the "cutting with scissors" portion of class when I was 5 - so I decided right then and there that we needed a plain circle version.
So I have two sets of tags really. Plain circle and scallop. Each has a corresponding letter (all 26 letters) and a blank. I placed 6 tags on each page to lessen the waste of paper factor.
I wanted to share one more thing you can do with these little fellas. You will notice that I pretty much filled up the front of them with color - no room for writing anything. So you may be asking yourself.. "Lolly.. what kind of wacky tags are these anyway." See.. Lolly has a plan. Lolly always has a plan! I saw a really cool idea for making little folded cards a long time ago using circles. I cannot find the exact one - but I did find a video with the basic idea HERE and I found a pic of another way to do it HERE (second pic down on the left side). I will work up a sample of this show you what I mean this week.
I WILL be making tags to go with each design I have made in the cards. It's just going to take me a while to get them all made up. I mean seriously.. I have 459 more to go (wait did I already say that??). hehehe.
I need you guys to let me know which ones you want to see next (owl, bright flowers, coolest grizzly bear on-the-planet, etc..). Sorry I started with blue chicken. He was just the first guy out of the gate so he was chosen as the guinea pig..err um I mean chicken.. Just leave me your vote in the comments of this post!
So here they are (in all their -took me forever to make- glory):
